Inclusivity Club Rebrands as Gender and Sexuality Alliance
By Meghan Weinroth ‘26
The GSA, formerly known as the Inclusivity Club, has had a name change! The Gender and Sexuality Alliance (GSA) represents all of the identities under the LGBTQ+ umbrella. It focuses on events such as Pink Shirt Day, CDS Pride Month, and other important days centering on pride and inclusion. It is also a safe space for students who are part of the LGBTQ+ community and allies to contribute to student life and make a difference.
This name change was made to further communicate the specific aspect of inclusivity that the GSA focuses on. GSA is a more common name for groups that support the LGBTQ+ community. This distinguishes this club from the Diversity and Social Justice groups. The name will let students know exactly what the club is about, especially if they are new.
This change signifies that the club is a safe space for all students, especially those that fall under the LGBTQ+ umbrella. This is extremely important as there are many people who feel unsafe due to discrimination and bullying. The GSA stands to help those who feel vulnerable in social situations. This name change is a step toward solving these issues.
The GSA meets on day ones during lunch in S11 with advisors Ms. Rutledge and Ms. Winterink. To learn more about GSAs, visit gsanetwork.org.
The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
Founded in 1972, The Country Day School is a co-educational private school offering programs in JK-12 and located on 100 acres north of Toronto in King.
