In 2011, CDS officially opened our Cyclone Dome, which was a much-needed addition to our athletic facilities. The Dome provided a climate-controlled year-round synthetic field surface for our students and became home to many special events like our Annual CDS Dinner and Auction.  Unfortunately, the Dome, which is an air-supported structure, is nearing it’s useful life age and needs to be replaced.
At the 2024 Annual CDS Dinner and Auction, Head of School John Liggett announced that with the generous support of a number of lead gifts from our community, CDS would launch a new campaign to raise the money to help replace the Dome with a permanent building known as a Fieldhouse.
This project is a high priority for CDS, as the current Cyclone Dome is nearing its useful life cycle and will have to be replaced sometime in the next one-to-three years. The current facility is home to an artificial field (40 by 60 meters) which is similar in size to a  U12-sized soccer pitch.
Our Dream is to transform our air-supported Dome into a true hard-walled best-of-class Fieldhouse.
The conversion of the facility to a walled structure would have enormous benefits, including being able to add natural light through windows and to add roll up walls to bring in fresh air. Since the facility would have a proper roof system, significant space would be made available inside the footprint of the Dome by moving lighting off the field and into the ceiling. This additional space would potentially allow for new athletic usage. We anticipate that the new facility will also be substantially more energy efficient with the elimination of the need to inflate the Dome 24 hours a day.

At the annual CDS Auction last June, we proudly unveiled plans for a new Fieldhouse as part of our continued efforts to enhance our campus. Since then, our vision has expanded, and we are now dreaming of transforming the Fieldhouse into a larger athletic and educational complex, located on the site of the current dome.

This ambitious project is part of our Dream Together Campaign, an initiative dedicated to advocating fitness for life at CDS. Stay tuned for more updates in the coming months about this exciting opportunity to further enrich our community.

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
