CDS Robotics Team Competes in Windsor this Weekend

By Joshua Simmonds

The Senior School Robotics Team, Team 4951 - CDS Cyclones, is competing in its second tournament of the season this weekend in Windsor. Just before March break, the team had an outstanding experience at the FRC Newmarket Tournament. A huge thank you to all the CDS students, teachers, and families who came out to support us - we truly felt the school spirit!

Our performance in Newmarket earned us 13 District Points. Our total points following the Windsor event will determine if we qualify for the Ontario Provincial Championships to be held on April 2-5 in Mississauga.
Other Newmarket Tournament highlights:
  • We finished with a 4-8 record in qualification matches and ranked 26th overall.
  • Despite our rank, ours was one of the best defensive robots at the tournament—earning the attention of top teams.
  • Our strong defensive play led to us being picked by Alliance #6 for the playoffs, ahead of higher-ranked teams. We teamed up with Team 1285 (from Mississauga) and Team 1305 (from North Bay) in the playoffs.
  • We battled hard in the elimination rounds, finishing 1-2 in playoffs and reaching Round 3 (semi-finals)—a major success!

Windsor Tournament this week:

Thanks to all of our fans, both in person and online, for cheering us on and helping us reach this milestone! We’re excited for Windsor and hope to see you cheering us on. Go Cyclones!

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
