CDS Robotics Team Competes in Newmarket This Weekend

By Lanna Wappel ’27
The CDS Senior School Robotics Team, Team 4951 - CDS Cyclones, is competing in its first tournament of the season this weekend in Newmarket! This event is the opening FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) tournament in Canada for the 2025 season.

🪸 This year’s FRC game, REEFSCAPE, features an underwater theme. The game requires students to prepare robots that will interact with aquatic-inspired game pieces. The team is excited for the chance to put their hard work to the test competing against other teams from across Ontario.
📅 Qualification Match Schedule:
  • Saturday, March 1st: 11:30 AM – 7:00 PM
  • Sunday, March 2nd: 9:30 AM – 12:45 PM
We play approximately 10-12 qualification matches throughout the weekend.

🏆 Playoff Match Schedule
  • Sunday, March 2nd: 2:30 PM – 5:30 PM
Alliance selection takes place at 1pm on Sunday to determine which teams make the playoffs.

🎉 Cheer Us On!
Throughout the weekend, live results will be posted on CDS Cyclones - The Blue Alliance. A tentative match schedule will also be available at this link as of Saturday morning. Our matches are randomly assigned, but tend to occur once every hour or so.
  • In person at Ray Twinney Recreation Complex, Arena 1 (100 Eagle St. W, Newmarket)
  • Online via FIRSTCanada’s Twitch stream – look for Team #4951 at the ON-Newmarket event.

Our team is grateful for all the support from families and partners throughout the year, as well as from fans at the tournament. We encourage the CDS community to come out and support the team and join us on either day to cheer on CDS Robotics. Go Cyclones! 🌪️🤖

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
