Canadian Senior & Intermediate Mathematics Contests
On November 13th, 2024, 42 motivated CDS students rose to the challenge of competing in either the Canadian Senior Mathematics Competition (CSMC) or the Canadian Intermediate Math Competition (CIMC). Both contests are 2 hours in duration, require full solutions, and provide students with opportunities to demonstrate an excellent knowledge of various mathematical topics.
The CIMC is offered to students in grade ten or below. This year, there were 13,898 worldwide participants. The worldwide average score was 27.2 out of 60. Certificates of Distinction are awarded to students who achieved a minimum qualifying score of 35 out of 60.
This year, our Certificates of Distinction are awarded to:
Santtu Koskinen (grade 8), with a score of 35
Dylan Matsui (grade 10), with a score of 36
A Certificate of Distinction, and, once it arrives, the school medal for achieving our top score of 43, is awarded to Ethan Shim (grade 9).
The CSMC is offered to students in grade twelve or below. This year, there were 16 425 worldwide participants. The worldwide average score was 30.7 out of 60. Certificates of Distinction are awarded to students who achieved a minimum qualifying score of 36 out of 60.
This year, our Certificates of Distinction are presented to:
Bobby Tian (grade 11), with a score of 40
Jason Liang (grade 12), with a score of 41
A Certificate of Distinction, and, once it arrives, the school medal for achieving our top score of 46, is awarded to Frank Fu (grade 12).
Congratulations to all who participated in these two challenging contests. Please reach out to your math teacher for your score if your results were not mentioned.
Going forward, the Mathematics and Computer Science departments would like to remind students that there are more enrichment opportunities coming up in the near future. The Canadian Computing Competition will be held on February 19th, and the Pascal, Cayley, and Fermat math contests will be written on February 26th. The Grade 12 Euclid Contest is on April 2nd, and the Fryer, Galois, and Hypatia Contests are on April 3rd.
The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
Founded in 1972, The Country Day School is a co-educational private school offering programs in JK-12 and located on 100 acres north of Toronto in King.
