Emily Nield ’09

Emily Nield ’09 double majored at Trent University in Physical Geography and Physics. During her summers, she worked at the University of Guelph under an NSERC Undergraduate Research Award. It was here where Emily first became interested in planetary science while working with the APXS (Alpha Particle X-ray Spectrometer) team.

Next, she applied to graduate schools that offered Planetary Aeolian Geomorphology and was courted by the Earth and Planetary Science Department at the University of Tennessee, which offered her a scholarship and fellowship to attend. For a time, Emily was in Knoxville, TN, studying threshold wind velocities (the minimum wind speed needed to move sediment) on Venus, Mars, and especially on Titan (the largest moon of Saturn), under Dr. Devon Burr.

The following summer, she spent time at NASA’s Ames Research Center in Mountain View, CA, to use the Titan Wind Tunnel for her research. Four years ago, Emily returned to Toronto to work as Manager of ESG & Sustainability at Epic Investment Services and recently took on a new role as National Manager of Sustainability for Triovest.
