Michael Cherny ’08

Michael Cherny ’08 was working on his BCom at the University of Toronto when he first started working at Deloitte Canada. He was hired full-time as a staff accountant in 2012, after which he took on increasing responsibility as senior accountant, senior consultant, chief of staff for the Audit Public Practice and then senior lead for the Future of Trust in 2019.

After nearly 10 years at Deloitte, Michael became the Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) at Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan (OTPP) in February 2022 where he leads OTPP’s Global DEI strategy, partnering closely with global senior leaders, the DEI Leadership Council and Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) to execute on the DEI strategy and as a key strategic advisor to the Investments and Member Services divisions of the organization.

Michael also serves as a Director on the Board of Women's College Hospital Foundation and as a Council Member for CPA Ontario. A community builder at heart, Michael has been recognized as a Catalyst Canada Honours Champion, CPA Ontario Emerging Leader and Notable Life 2SLGBTQ+ Leader of the Year, and is a keynote speaker and thought leader on the topic of DEI.
