  • Grade 11 Personal Fitness Climbs to New Levels

    By Denise Steadman
Earlier this week, the Grade 11 Personal Fitness class travelled to Of Rock and Chalk in Newmarket to use their rock climbing gym. Everyone had a great time testing their skills on walls of varying difficulty levels.

We all started on the easier wall, building confidence, then moved straight to the more challenging walls. It was exciting to see classmates encouraging each other and celebrating every successful climb.

The group enjoyed the physical challenge and the sense of accomplishment that came with reaching the top of the walls and ladder. Overall, it was a fun and rewarding experience that left everyone feeling excited to go again!

The day was filled with laughter, determination, and teamwork as we tackled uphill climbs, picked ourselves up after falls, and encouraged one another while soaring down hills and winding through the trails.

  • CDS Brothers Take Sport to the Next Level

    By Zach Lawton
Everett Smith ’25 and Leyton Smith ’27 are not only linemates on CDS's Varsity Hockey team, they are also partners on the CDS Golf team—a unique experience they’ve both enjoyed over the past two years in high school.

As CDS students just two years apart, the boys have competed on a wide variety of teams since Junior School, including soccer, basketball, volleyball, softball, cross country, rugby, track, golf, hockey, and even CDS's Gord Lytle fishing team. While they haven’t always played on the same teams, it’s on the hockey and golf teams where their brotherly bond has truly shone.

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
