Post Secondary Counselling

Welcome back from the CDS Post-Secondary Counselling Team! We are thrilled to see so many students come through our office door these past two weeks to say hello and to ask questions about what the year(s) ahead will look like.

Here are a few resources for students and parents during these early days of the 2024/25 school year:
  • Post-Secondary Counselling Google Classrooms for Grades 10, 11 & 12: These Google Classrooms are the primary resource for announcements, important information, helpful documents and a schedule of Post-Secondary Events. Grade 11 and 12 students should subscribe to their Classroom's calendar to see all upcoming university visits to CDS and events happening locally.
  • MyCDS Post-Secondary Counselling Group: Available to parents of students in Grades 9-12 in MyCDS under your Senior School student's "Community" groups. See the attached screenshot for how to navigate to this group.
  • GY University Trips: Our annual tradition of the GY Trips (East & West) is taking place from September 25th-27th. Grad year students opt to head either East or West to visit several university campuses over the course of three days and explore university towns while reconnecting with CDS Alumni on each campus.
  • University & College visits at CDS: Throughout the fall, Admissions reps from many colleges and universities across Canada and beyond will be coming to CDS for drop-by conversations in the form of “mini fairs”. The reps will be set up in the Mantella Atrium on given dates during the Senior School lunch period. The schedule can be found in the Post-Secondary Counselling Google Classrooms and the MyCDS Post-Secondary Counselling Group.
  • In-person meetings: Students can visit the Admissions Office to book an in-person meeting with Mr. Huckvale or Ms. Moreau (parents are welcome to join). One of us will also be available for drop-in questions every day from 12:15-12:35 pm on the red couches outside the Admissions Office. Students in any grade can come by for a chat or get a quick question answered.
  • Grade 10 Careers Class: This is a valuable course for students to start learning more about themselves and their interests. During this course, lots of time and consideration will be given to future planning and course selection for Grade 11. This year’s Careers classes will be spending a day on a university campus to learn about admissions processes, explore campus and chat with experts.
We look forward to working with your students this year!

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
