The Under The Big Top Dinner & Auction Was Spectacular!

Tracey Scott
What a party we held last Friday here in our very own Big Top! The evening was buzzing from the start, with guests ready to celebrate and support CDS. Along with the silent and live auctions, the night featured jugglers, stilt walkers and a live band to finish off the evening.

Each year, the funds raised from the Auction are directed toward a special project at the school. This year, contributions were set to help replace the Cyclone Dome, which, at 13 years old, is nearing the end of its lifespan. Incredibly, thanks to the generous and leading contributions of a number of CDS families, Head of School John Liggett was able to announce that we are now able to direct the funds towards a more permanent field house building, a significant step in our school's development. Your support has made this possible, and we are truly grateful.
This is exciting news for CDS. At Friday’s event, John announced the Dream Together campaign, encouraging our community to dream with us and support this next step in CDS’s continued enhancements to our campus. We encourage you to take a moment to view our year in review video.

With this uplifting news, the 2024 Auction committee is pleased to announce that $266,000 net was raised on Friday evening towards this new project that will benefit all of our students across the school.

A very special thank you to our Auction Co-Chairs, CDS Parents Sarah Powell ‘96 and Catrina Marzilli, who led our incredible Auction Planning Team and worked countless hours over the past six months to bring the evening together. To the volunteers who assisted with prep prior to the event, and event day set up, your part did not go unnoticed. Many hands do indeed make light work! Thank you to all!

And last but not least, thank you to all of our auction sponsors and donors for making the night such a huge success. Without your commitment to sponsoring, donating an item or cash gift, the marvelous success of this evening would not have been possible. For those in attendance - thank you for your support.

As we bring this year to a close we ask that you SAVE THE DATE for our 49th Annual Auction on Friday, May 30, 2025.

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
