Gr. 11 and Gr. 5 “Cross-over” Bio event

One of the benefits of a K-12 school is the chance to connect students across grade levels. This past week, our Grade 11 Biology students had the unique opportunity to step into the role of teacher/mentor as they partnered with Grade 5 students for a hands-on, cross-grade Biology activity.  Both grades are learning about human body systems, so we teamed up to bring the circulatory system to life.

Together, students explored how exercise affects the body by measuring heart rate with stethoscopes and tracking changes in blood pressure using monitors. It was a fun and engaging experience for everyone involved - our older students practiced leadership and communication skills, while our younger students got a first-hand look at science in action.

There is no better way to consolidate understanding than through real-world experiential education.

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
