Spotlight on U14 Boys’ Volleyball Team

The U14 Boys’ Volleyball team has had an inspirational start to their season. From an uncertain first week where they weren’t sure they would have enough players to field a team, to welcoming a few more Grade 7 students during the tryout period, they have rallied to form an enthusiastic team of nine players – and are building momentum with every game.
According to their coaches Mr. Vien and Mr. Wappel, the players have made significant progress in both skill development and team cohesion. In their first two matches, they achieved victories against Pickering College and Lauremont School (formerly TMS), winning both in three sets.

Mr. Wappel and Mr. Vien shared that both Max Wang '29 and Santtu Koskinen '29, who have played volleyball before, have emerged as team leaders and that Thomas Merianos '29 has shown great consistency in his serves. Meanwhile, their Grade 7 developmental players have also put forth a great effort this season with a few playing key roles in winning sets with their serving.

This afternoon, the U14 Boys' hosted HTS, Pickering College and Montcrest School for their first tri-meet, and remain undefeated having won both their games against HTS and Montcrest in 2 sets (best of 3 for this double meet)! They have one more game in their season next week against The York School.

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
