Meredith Langston

Middle & Senior School Associate Teacher
How do you continue learning in your life? What is your professional passion?
I often set goals throughout the year in order to continue learning and improve upon my teaching practice. My goals for this year include: 1) Complete my masters of education 2) Complete at least two AQ courses, and 3) Attend at least two teaching seminars. My professional passions include teaching and developing children's artistic skills and confidence. I am also passionate about coaching sports teams at all levels at the school and helping students develop a positive growth mindset while improving their fitness.

What is one of your favourite interactions with students?
Athletics! Being a coach helps develop a different type of relationship with my students. This relationship outside of the classroom greatly benefits my relationship and expectations of the students in the classroom.

Favourite Thing about Working at CDS:
I have many, but if I had to choose one it would be the environment. I knew coming back to CDS (Meredith is an alumna from the Class of 2013) was going to be the ideal environment for me to grow as an educator and learn from some of the best teachers. I am so lucky to have been a student at the school and to have been taught by some of these amazing educators. I now feel I am equally lucky to work alongside them.

Something You’ve Crossed off your Bucket List: Traveling and living in the United Kingdom.

Other than CDS, I support: Jump for Ooch (Camp Oochigeas), The Country Toy Tea, She's Got Game - A University of Guelph Women in Sports Initiative, Blue Door Shelters, and Big Brothers and Sisters of York Region

Hometown: Aurora, ON

Also Known As:
Coach and Daisy

Joined CDS in: As a student 1999 (graduate of the Class of 2013) and as an educator 2022

Education:
JK-12: The Country Day School (known as a Lifer)
BA from the University of Guelph, Teachers Education Program and Masters of Education from Cardiff Metropolitan University in Wales

How has being a CDS alumna helped you in your teaching career?
Being an Alumni at an independent school has allowed me to better understand the expectations of the families and students that choose to attend a university preparatory school. It also allows me a better insight into the level of education that is expected from the staff and faculty at the school.
