After a narrow loss last week against Ridley College, the U14 Boys’ Soccer team was back on the road facing the top-ranked Appleby College in an intense matchup this week. The Cyclones came out strong with relentless pressure, led by the blazing speed of winger Matteo LiVolsi. With our central midfielders dominating their battles and controlling the tempo, CDS held most of the possession in the first half.
Defensively, Anthony Rotundo and Armaan Sidanawere relentless in shutting down Appleby’s top striker and helping keep the game scoreless going into halftime. But the boys were hungry for more, and Ricky Ren delivered in the second half. He took on Appleby’s backline, weaving through defenders, and struck the net three times to give CDS a commanding lead. A huge shout-out to Thomas Pitts for delivering well placed corner kicks to assist those critical plays.
Appleby made a late surge, scoring twice in the dying minutes, but CDS held their ground, maintaining possession and sealing a 3-2 victory. The team is fired up and gaining confidence as they look ahead to their next challenge against Villanova next week.
The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
